There are many Bit Torrent clients out there which do offer some kind of privacy protection, but they are often offered through slow proxies or paid VPN services. Tribler takes a different route with its Tor-like Onion-style network which helps make your file sharing anonymous.
Tribler is a nice-looking application which has many useful filesharing features and it does most of what other, more popular torrent clients do. The interface left-hand panel provides access to its main features (search results, downloads, channels, etc.) while the larger panel on the right provides details about search results and downloads.
The part of Tribler which makes its usage anonymous for users is similar to the concept of the Tor network. It takes advantage of other peers on the network and connects you through relays. That makes it impossible for anybody to track your IP address because downloads are never direct.
Tribler includes many social networking features for finding and sharing new content. Users of the network are able to just existing channels or create new ones, something you might be able to compare to themes of chat rooms in a way. There are different ways here to protect your identity.
In terms of downloading files, Tribler provides details about current downloads and uploads in a list format. Each item contains details about current download and upload speeds, estimated time of completion, percentage completed and more.
All in all, Tribler is a very different approach for a Bit Torrent client and is certainly an effective way to help protect your identity online thanks to its Tor-like approach.
